Environment

A lot has been said on deterioration of green environment and ways of saving it. If current trend in temperature rise continues the future mankind will face a tremendous shortage of water, shortage of agricultural yield and increase in death ratio of living species. An awareness of environmental challenges will make a difference in this context. Different educational programmes are important in imparting  awareness about the environmental issues. It should involve proper planning , adequate methodology and smart measures that will benefit our mission of saving our earth.

In the Constitution of India it is clearly stated that it is the duty of the state to ‘protect and improve the environment and to safeguard the forests and wildlife of the country’. It imposes a duty on every citizen ‘to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers, and wildlife’. The constitutional provisions are backed by a number of laws – acts, rules, and notifications. The EPA (Environment Protection Act), 1986 came into force soon after the Bhopal Gas Tragedy and is considered an umbrella legislation as it fills many gaps in the existing laws.

SPT major concerns are focused on environmental protection, conservation and awareness. Care in taken in selecting, financing, and implementing projects, which are aimed at promoting social welfare. SPT is working on various fronts starting from creating environmental awareness to undertaking sustainable livelihoods.
